For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.
- Jeremiah 29:11
As news traveled of Jessica’s accident in August in 2009, many friends and family members rushed to the hospital to provide support and to gather in prayer. As Christians, her family found comfort in Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." It seemed that night-time was the hardest for Jessica. Filled with breathing issues, heart rate soaring and constant fear of losing her. We were told Jessica would not make it. Jessica's Mom (Lisa) woke up from a nap one day and felt the need to ask people to pray all at the same time. Jessica's friend Kayleigh and Lisa, came up with 10:00 am (figuring most people were up by then for morning prayer, 3:00 pm for the middle of the day and 10:00 pm - to get us through the night.
For months we gathered in the hallways or at Jessica's bedside at the hospital at these times. Sometimes we had as many as 25 people in the hallways gathered to pray for Jessica complete healing. We even received special permission from her doctor who wrote it as a order (prescription type request to staff) so we could have visitors during off visiting hours. Her family felt strongly that these times were significant and that everyone, no matter where they were, could stop and join Jessica’s family in prayer. Many set their watches and cell phones to remind them of prayer time. On many occasions, family members and friends would call the hospital and be on speaker phone to join in with those present.
We still welcome and are thankful each day for those who join us. It is comforting to know that we are not alone in this. We continue to pray for Jessica’s complete healing and the wisdom of her medical e still welcome and are thankful each day for those who join us.
